THE RIM OF A DAY

Dawn cracks like a whip,

like an egg, like an old plate,

like an earthquake, like a good laugh

and spills over the rim of a day.

Sun sets like concrete,

like jelly, like a train, like scenery,

like a resolution and night falls,

like autumn, in love, off the rim of a day.

In between minutes are taken,

seconds replace, morning becomes her,

afternoons drag on. Evening all,

time to party until the rim of the day.
